We made it to Day #5

It’s time to look back at those unanswered prayers we wrote down on preparation day.

The more we connect with God, the closer we become. As our relationship grows, we begin to know how to approach our Lord.

Based on our learning over the past 5 days, is there any asking amiss that you need to address?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father; An whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:12-14

What do you think these works are, and how do they connect to prayer?

Introduction and Preparation: The Discipline of Prayer

Could your prayer life use a tune-up? Most of ours could. The stress of daily life and its many distractions can make it tough for us to pray regularly, and the mystery of unanswered prayers can make us unwilling or even bitter.

The Scriptures have a lot to say about prayer. They inform us by both example and command how to pray, why, and what for—and may surprise us more than once about what to ask!

Have you given up hope for a refreshing, effective, and vibrant prayer life?

Let your hope be revived! You can receive what you pray for. You can enjoy praying again. You can be an instrument of miracles and blessing in your life and those of others. This challenge will only scratch the surface. This is primarily because prayer, like anything worth doing and growing in, is best learned by actually doing it, not by reading about it. But I do hope to give you principles and truths that will refresh, fortify, and revitalize your prayers and bring you the answers you’ve longed for.

Commit to growing in prayer.

If you make the choice to act on the truths you learn here, believing what God says rather than what your emotions, circumstances, or traditions tell you, you can be certain that your prayer life will grow. You will see answers. You will have joy. You will taste what God can do with a soul completely turned to Him. Prayer doesn’t have to be drudgery. It can be sheer delight. It won’t always be like that, for a variety of reasons. But if you struggle to enjoy prayer, if it seems like a chore, if you’ve lost the spark of communication with God, you’re in the right place.

Why don’t you pray right now?

Ask God to give you an open heart and mind to what we will share here. Ask for the grace to follow through on what you learn. Pray for protection from distractions and any hindrances in your own heart. Ask for the ability to take God at His Word.

  1. Hello everyone! Today’s discussion question is based on John 14:12: What do you think these works are, and how do they connect to prayer?

I think these works are leading souls to Christ. When I look back at the works of Christ, His miracles and works were to strengthen the weak faith of His followers. The disciples, after Christ leaves them to return to Heaven, would also do the same works, but they would also work to convert souls. This is a greater work and I think it is what Jesus was referring to.

The connection to prayer, I believe, is that we are able to accomplish these greater works if we ask in His name. If we desire to win souls for the Kingdom, He will do it through us.

  2. The works that Christ is referring to is pointing to him and salvation. The early Jews believed that obeying the law was the way to GOD. Christ came to show mankind that the law could not save, rather it showed man what sin was. If you broke one law you were guilty of all. Christ demonstrated how his love provided forgiveness, mercy through his works of healing, delivering and enlightening. They are connected to prayer in that just as Christ always found time to be alone to pray to the father so too we must spend time with him to refresh, strengthen ourselves. As we seek Christ in prayer, He then leads, guides and direct our steps and become more like Him.
