Hey friends!
We are growing here in the winning room! I thought it would be fitting to have a logo that exemplifies our focus on growth. So…
I recently published a book Fruit of the Spirit: Abiding in Christ and Bearing Fruit where I talk about Jesus’ discussion of vines, branches, seeds, and fruit. He said that he is the vine and we are the branches. We need him in order to grow and bear fruit. Then, my Pastor, R. Bowles of Truth Church, talked about how sometimes we are the seeds planted in the soil and how it is a necessary part of growth. All of this is part of the vision for The Winning Room.
I literally stayed up all night until nearly 5 this morning working with a designer to bring this logo to life. I explained the purpose of the blog and the designer asked many clarifying questions over the course of several hours. We tried out different color palettes and fonts until he dropped 4 designs in our thread. I looked at the first, a black background with the “W” in winning styled as a house in a green and white font. I didn’t know what kind of growing was going on in that little “w” house, but I was certain that it wasn’t the kind of growing we’re doing. I thought eh, it doesn’t look like we’re winning and it doesn’t bring me joy.

On to number 2 where there was an “e” inside a box that was supposed to represent a room. The colors were also black, white, and green. It was oddly familiar. This reminded me too much of some long forgotten store logo that I couldn’t quite remember, so this was a definite no.

Number 3 caused me to pause and consider just what exactly was going on here. Now by this time its nearly 3 am and delirium was setting in. First of all, the bar in the “H” was made up of two hands shaking. If that wasn’t bizarre enough, the right side of the “w” had what looked to me like someone firing finger firearms – pew, pew, pew (you know we have to watch what we say out here on Rihanna’s internet)! I had no idea why all those colorful little people were sprouting from the “w” so it was a no.

Then I opened number 4.

I looked and I looked again. Okay, I see what I’ve been seeing for weeks in my writing. I zoomed in and made it bigger. Then I knew. This is the one. It was speaking to me (or my pillow was calling me because it was close to 4 in the morning). All I could have ever said about The Winning Room was right there on the screen. There’s so much going on in this very clean and simple design. After sharing hex codes back and forth for nearly an hour trying to get the color palette just right, I was excited thinking about what the future holds for this new little seedling of a blog. The work was done and TWR had a logo I loved. It was time to rest.
So let’s talk about it!
What do you think of the logo? What do you see in the design that might give us some insight?
Who’s going to be first to kick off our discussion in the comments?
I’d love to hear from you! Follow The Winning Room and comment below.

P.S.
As I was editing the post it dawned on me that I could have actually posted all of the designs, but you got to use your imagination! At any rate, check out all of the designs here. Oh! And if you remember a company logo that had an “e” in a box, let me know!
